Hot Destination Travel Essentials

hot destination travel essentials

I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to travel relatively frequently throughout my life, though I haven’t been able to fully beat my wardrobe over-packing habit yet!

Below are some of the travel essentials that are always at the top of my packing list.

Sun Protection

This is a pretty broad category since everyone has a different level of sun protection to which they prescribe. Personally, I love the sun, but I’m also a firm believer in wearing sunscreen and sticking to the shade during peak hours. Hats and sunglasses are also key when I’m packing for a trip that will include lots of sunshine.

Aftersun

Another key factor in taking care of your skin is how well you moisturize after being out in the sun. Hawaiian Tropic and Australian Gold are my two favourites because of their lovely scent, but you can use straight aloe or the many other brands that carry aftersun lotions. Slather on as much as your skin can absorb, you won’t regret it!

Bug Spray

For some destinations, I would consider purchasing bug spray depending on whether I notice mosquitos or not, since the price is usually more reasonable than at an all-inclusive resort. But don’t underestimate the importance of having this item! Not only are itchy bug bites an annoyance, in certain locations they also carry infectious diseases. Better safe than sorry :)

Towel Clips

These have become a surprising staple on my packing list when going to any beach destination. Not only do they keep towels from flying off the lounge chairs; they’re also a great way to clearly mark your territory! I get them from the dollar store in bright colours, though there are some really fun ones that can be found in other stores or online.

First Aid Kit

Now I’m not saying you need to prepare for a crazy emergency, but it’s important to pack some essentials in case of minor incidents. I always keep a little cosmetic bag with basics, like band-aids and Advil, along with a few other supplies. If you have any medical concerns that have the potential to crop up (hello UTI!), it’s a great idea to get a prescription from your doctor.

I can’t go anywhere without my Pir hair serum! – when traveling, my hair goes super frizzy or flat.
