Welcome To The Green Side, We Have Pineapple Leather

I was once the supposed animal lover who purchased fur and ate whatever I wanted without a second thought. It has been almost two years since I have been only using beauty products that are cruelty-free and environmentally friendly and slowly transitioning with fashion, consumer goods, and food.
I am constantly inspired by companies that contain positive social and environmental impacts in their business. It gives me the encouragement to know that I can be the driver of positive change in the world simply by voting with my dollar to firms that are creating something much greater than a means to an end.
The initial change began when I started questioning what I was putting into my body which made me change my eating habits (eating local, organic, GMO-free, no red meats, cutting diary) and inevitably started also to question what I was putting ON my body as well. I could not look at my cat in the eye till I had changed my consumerism and embodied the animal lover I was through actions.
I said to myself,
"if it is not safe for me to eat, then there is no way it’s going anywhere near my body or face.”
One day I just threw out all of my beauty products that didn't meet my criteria and decided to go through a greener route. Yes, every chemically produced and questionable product I could find was a three-pointer right into the trash. Then my entire lifestyle changed slowly.
The Green Side
It was not an easy transition, and it does take time and commitment just like anything else in life that is worth it.
Here is some advice I would give to people who are thinking about becoming a more conscious consumer.
1. With change comes self-reflection of your personal values, remembering to stay true to yourself and never to force anything.
2. Acknowledge all the positive changes you are adding to your life instead of focusing on all the things you want to get rid of right away, for example, being excited about your first purchase of organic coffee mascara!
3. Do not be harsh on yourself when you fall off your plan, we’re only human. Just have fun with it and enjoy the journey. How can having coffee on your eyelashes not be the coolest thing in the world?
