Organizing Your Life To Get Shit Done
Posted: Oct 16 2017
Even as a child, I always loved being organized. In school, later at the University, and once I started working, I was that person that had everything labeled. All my pencils would be sharpened, I had lists and colour codes...you get the point. Although I may have gone overboard a few times, I do think being organized makes life easier. Yes, you will spend some time getting things in order, but once you do, it will be easier to keep them that way and deal with unexpected situations faster. Trust me, it’s easier to get out of the door presentable when you overslept in the morning if everything is in its place and you can find it all quickly.
I understand some people don’t know where to start, and it can all be so overwhelming, so I wanted to offer some advice on how to start the process of organizing your home and life.
1. Start Small
Like everything else in life, if you start doing it all at once, it will get overwhelming. Start with one thing at a time. Maybe that one junk drawer you don’t even know anymore what is in it?
2. There Is No One Right Way
Don’t let anyone tell you how to do things. Organize everything in a way that works for you. Every time my mum would visit she would put everything in different places, and when she would leave I would put it all back. It’s not that her way was better or worse, it’s just that mine works better for me.
3. Make Lists
You heard this a million times, but lists do help. Try to keep your to-do lists reasonable, it’s easy to add more tasks if you have time. Have a grocery list on your fridge. Maybe a separate list for tasks that are not urgent, but will need attention eventually. Make lists that will help you do things faster, so you have more time to relax.
4. Keep It Up
The most important thing is, once you organize a small part of your home or life, try to keep it that way so you don’t have to go back and do it all over again.
How do you get organized?
