4 Tips On Working From Home

I’ve been so lucky to have jobs that allow me to work from home 1-3 days out of the 5-day workweek. It’s what every working human wants, right? The ability to roll out of bed five minutes before you need to clock-in and make breakfast while you check your morning to-do list. You can sit wherever you want and you save so much money from your nonexistent commute!
Whenever I tell my friends or family that I work from home for the majority of the work-week, they oooh and ahhh at my ability to stay focused. Below, I’ve provided tips to help you stay focused when you work from home.
1. Stay organized
Make a to-do list - I personally like to use Slack (best. tool. EVER.), but I know others who use post-it notes or their agenda. Having a to-do list helps you prioritize your tasks.
Block out time in your calendar - Again, I go digital for this. I like to block out times in my iCal to work on certain projects and move them around accordingly based on priority. It also allows me to tell others what my working hours are. It’s so easy to be working at any time of the day (or night!), avoid this by using a calendar!
2. Get dressed
It’s SO tempting to stay in your PJs all day, but as the saying goes, dress for the job you want, not the job you have… Wait a minute, is professional sleeper a job? Cause I could definitely do that. Kidding! Getting dressed for work helps you get into the “office” mindset. It tricks you into being more productive!
3. Make an office
Your bed may be calling you, but your neck, back, and wrists will hate you for it (eventually). Dedicate a home office or desk as your workspace. Keep it as clutter-free as possible to avoid distractions! Make it a place you want to work in - decorate with plants, fun stationery, or posters! 4. Take a break
This was so hard for me to do when I first started working from home. People would ask, “don’t you get distracted?” I was the complete opposite. I’d get so engulfed in what I was working on, I’d forget to take a break. To avoid a complete and utter burnout, take a break! Go for a walk, make some lunch, call a friend - do anything that doesn’t involve your work computer.
